April 15, 2012 – SURRENDER INTO THE VAST UNKNOWN – Leora Cash

An interactive workshop where we will use our imagination to explore together the feeling of surrending into that sweet space of being vulnerable; the vast unknown.
Where we have nothing to hide, no right or wrong, only the will and desire for sound to experience and receive its self. The place where the singer connects to the action of singing and discovers its self; vocal identity, the maker and receiver of sound.

CONCERTS

May 4, 2012 – POP, OPERA, CABARET, & ALL THAT JAZZ Concert

The POP, OPERA, CABARET, & ALL THAT JAZZ concert will feature performances by selected singers from the January 24th CROSS-OVER Master Class, February 21st JAZZ Master Class, March 20th OPERA Master Classs, as well as guest performers.

PAST CLASSES:

October 16, 2011 – SINGING AND THE CHAKRAS – Cathy Burnett

This workshop will cover the chakras that are part of your energetic body. I will be giving you an understanding of what they are, and how they manifest in your physical and emotional bodies. We will then explore them via sounding, visualization, and movement. The objective of this work is to provide you with another way to create a fuller resonance for your singing.

You will also learn a short meditation that will open and clear the chakras. This will provide you with a faster way to access a clear channel for your sound.

I have been doing this work with singers and actors for many years and have found it immensely
beneficial when given a focus for sound enhancement.

Be ready to move, explore and expand your consciousness!

If there are those who choose to audit this session you will be able to pick up a lot as there will be much discussion that you can take part in. You will also be able to observe the benefits of the physical exploration and witness the changes in vocal resonance after the meditation.

October 25, 2011 – THE ALCHEMY OF SINGING – Frederik Robert

Note: This class is limited to 12 participants (unlimited audits) as each singer will be allotted a 15 minute 1-on-1 opportunity to work with the instructor during the 3 hour class.

What is the key to successfully and authentically connecting to audiences? How can you as a singer and artist transform and transport your audiences in every performance?

Every artist is capable of understanding the magic that breathes within their own instrument. The Alchemy of Singing is a way to incorporate impeccable technique, the power of vibration, presence and a deep surrender of your “self” in order to capture the magic of your voice and affecting the hearts of those listening.

Join Frederik Robert as he brings you to your most powerful performance of your life.

November 6, 2011 – THE EMBODIED MUSICIAN – Paula Wise

Through the Art of Healthy Performance Practice

This interactive workshop is an in-depth exploration of our mind/body awareness as it pertains to performance practice. In the experiential exercises we will be observing our thoughts and sensations in the body. Examining the thoughts that come into play, as we get ready to perform, will allow you to choose more productive ways to support yourself. You will learn relaxation and centering techniques that can shift tension in the body, allow for a grounded core to emerge which will create more internal space to express. As we experience conscious embodiment, we increase our capacity to stay in the present moment, to be able to be with body sensations, to be centered and non-reactive, to have a curious, accepting and disciplined mind. Performing, then, can take on a whole different state of flow; confident and effortless action, authentic and fluid movement.

Please bring paper and pen to journal. To provide comfort for the body work please bring a yoga mat, small blanket to cover yourself and something to put your head on (small pillow or sweater). Try to bring either a yoga strap or scarf to tie around your knees.

Every vocalist is challenged with the reality that there are fewer and fewer opera houses hiring, fewer and fewer labels to sign on to and incredible cuts in arts funding. With such a large pool of talented and incredible artists to compete with, the modern day classical singer MUST explore multiple ways to appeal to a larger demographic of listeners in order to burst through a saturated market.

Frederik Robert has over ten years of experience as a classical crossover artist. In this masterclass he will offer vocal tips and tools on how to master various genres, how to integrate your authentic sound to any song without compromising impeccable technique, mic and recording techniques as well as opening your minds to reaching a larger audience base in order to maximize a versatile and explosive career.

Cross over repertoire is a genre that crosses popular and classical. The songs are generally familiar and considered easier listening. The music is usually sung by classical to semi classical vocalists. This class is to train classical singers to explore other repertoire so they can appeal to a broader audience.

Let us all take note of the variety of great music that resonates throughout our world and not forget to enchant our lives with it every day.” (from “Chanting ~ Discovering Spirit in Sound” by Robert Gass)

Through beautiful melody, rhythm, breath and chanting divine qualities or names of God, we are automatically carried to deeper places within ourselves. There is nothing to “DO” with the voice, we simply surrender and join into to the river of authentic sound that is always flowing around and within us. When we join together and sing in this sacred way, we assist one another to remember our divine connection. For more info, please see: http://www.krishnadas.com/chanting.cfm
